In commemoration of the one-year anniversary of the Occupy Wall Street movement, the Civilians theater company will assemble an evening of performance material inspired by more than 150 interviews with activists associated with the Occupy movement that have been conducted over the last year. A cabaret, called “Let Me Ascertain You: Occupy #S17,” is to feature monologues and songs created by Civilians artists from their interviews. It will run for one night, Sept. 17, at Joe’s Pub at the Public Theater.

The company has also allowed the transcripts of the interviews to be posted on its Web site in an effort to encourage other artists, students and activists to participate by setting up similar cabarets in their own communities. Additional groups in Portland, Ore.; Albuquerque; and Cincinnati have already committed to hosting their own events, according to a news release.

“We felt that by doing something for the anniversary we could push for a day of reflection of not only the movement but all of the issues that the movement raised, which I think, in the state that it is in now, seems to have lost some of its visibility,” Steve Cosson, the artistic director of the Civilians, said in a phone interview.

Tickets for the New York event are available at joespub.com and by calling (212) 967-7555. For information about participating, send e-mail to occupy@thecivilians.org.
