It’s become clear heading into NASCAR’s All-Star break that Paul Menard’s fast start to the season was a fraud.
You know what I’m talking about. A couple months ago, Menard was ninth in points and everyone was wondering how a perennial top-30 driver was suddenly in the top 10.
There was a big “Told you so!” from the few Menard fans and stories were written about Menard’s breakout season.
Menard himself cautioned against assuming the hot start would last (if you can call finishing 13th, 18th and 17th in the first three races a “hot start”). And he was right.
In the last six races, Menard hasn’t finished inside the top 20. He’s now 23rd in points and has no shot of making the Chase.
But yet, no one seems to have mentioned his decline. Our guess is because no one is that surprised.
