L.A. police searching for driver in fatal hit-and-runJuly 29, 2012 |  3:49pmincrease text sizedecrease text size

A 36-year-old man was killed Saturday night while crossing a street in the San Fernando Valley in what authorities are describing as a fatal hit-and-run collision.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was walking in a crosswalk on Parthenia Street in Los Angeles' North Hills neighborhood when he was struck by a vehicle, the Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement.

The driver did not stop or report the accident, and authorities found the man on the ground suffering from his injuries. He was taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead.

Los Angeles police are looking for the driver, whom witnesses described as a bald, heavyset 20- to 53-year-old man driving a white Chevrolet pickup truck with orange racing stripes. The truck, which may have been damaged during the collision, was traveling east on Parthenia Street at Orion Avenue at the time.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact the LAPD Valley Traffic Division at (818) 644-8035 or make an anonymous report at (800) 222-TIPS.
